Frequently Asked Questions
1) What are your rates?
Wish there was a simple answer! Every project is different, and every client has different needs. Estimates and rates for architectural and interior photography are provided for each project on a case-by-case basis, and all of the variables unique to your project can affect the rate. Please fill out the pricing form on my website at www.zoralnaik.com/getaquote. This form includes specific questions tailored to your project, enabling me to kick-start the conversation and provide you with an estimate.
2) Who owns the delivered photos?
While it's a common assumption that clients gain exclusive ownership of the delivered photos, it's important to clarify this before the commissioning of a shoot. My contract outlines that I retain exclusive ownership and copyright © of the photos, and clients are provided with a license to use them for specific purposes on specific platforms.
You are already familiar with a licensing model. You don’t own the everyday Microsoft Word simply because you have paid for it. What you have paid for is actually license to use the software. When you pay for Netflix, you pay for a subscription to use it for your own entertainment. You don’t exactly own those TV shows! Photos are the same.
3) What is a Photo License. What sort of license
comes with the photos I get?
A photo license is an agreement where the photographer grants specific rights to the client for using images for designated purposes, platforms and duration in exchange for compensation.
With every photo I deliver, I include a Standard Usage License. This license allows for everyday business uses such as website and social media, competition entries, as well as in-house/internal uses like proposals, printed self-published collateral, and wall displays. It's a perpetual license that does not expire. However, additional uses such as editorials, magazines, books and mass marketing/advertising platforms like billboards and TV commercials require separate licenses, which can be discussed and purchased as needed.
4) Can i share the photos with other parties associated
with the project?
No, the photos delivered and licensed to you are exclusively for your use. Sharing the photos with third parties associated with the project, including (but limited to) architects, interior designers, contractors, vendors, owners, brands, and other platforms, is not permitted. However, if these parties are interested in obtaining the final delivered photos, they can license individual photos through me after the shoot at any time.
5) How much time does it take to deliver the final
edited images?
My post-processing for architecture and interior photos is meticulous and time-consuming, requiring a great deal of attention to detail. My standard turnaround time for final photos typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks after photo proofing, depending on factors such as photo count, complexity of the shoot and overall workload. However, for urgent deadlines, expedited delivery options can be available, although they do incur an additional cost based on the specific request.
6) Do you travel for shoots?
Absolutely. While my base is in Karachi, I'm available to shoot all over Pakistan. However, when shooting locations in other cities, please note that my rates do increase on a case-by-case basis, which will be mentioned in my quotation. This increase is to account for the extra time and effort required for preparation, traveling and shooting in different locations as well as to compensate for my unavailability to do in-house work during that time. Additionally, clients are responsible for covering all travel-related expenses, including transportation and accommodation
7) Do you offer discounts?
Yes and no! Depends on each situation. Let me know if you have a budget limitation and we can surely discuss the possibilities.
8) Do you only shoot Architecture and Interiors?
Photographing the built environment is indeed my specialty and main focus of work at the moment. However, I also have extensive experience in photojournalism and documentary photography, although currently, it's more of a side pursuit. In my free time, I pursue personal fine art photography projects as a way to make sense of the world around me. For more information about my practices, you can visit www.zoralnaik.com
9) Do you offer videography services as well?
At the moment, my work is strictly restricted to still photography, which is what I specialise in and take pride in. However, I do plan on assembling a dedicated and skill-full crew in the future that can match my vision for architectural video pieces.
